Asian Civilisation Museum - China

The Buddha

Originated in Idea, Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of Gautama Shakyamuni, who lived between 563 and 483 BCE. However, it is still not very clear the exact time when Buddhism was first encountered in China, although there are literary allusions to suggest that China was aware of its existence as early as the third century BCE. The court of the Han dynasty under the reign of Emperor Ming (CE 58-75) recorded officially his dream of a giant gilded deity, who was identified as Buddha. It was in china where the religion developed and became widely accepted into the lift of the Chinese.
