Dehua porcelain place, a country in the Fujian province. Originated as early as the 12th century, its quality reached a high point in the 17th century. Techniques such as press-moulding and slip-casting(commonly used from the early 20th century onwards) were employed to create a wide repertoire of wares over the centuries. This ranged from religious figurines to scholar's objects and utilitarian wares. Initially produced for use in homes and temples in China, these refined wares eventually sparked off a strong interest in Southeast Asia and Europe, evident from the huge collection of Augustus the Strong(1670-1733) and the Meissen imitations. There continues to be a thriving ceramic industry in Dehua today with figurines being today with figurines being made in traditional and modern styles, as well as the mass production of household crockery.

Dehua Porcelain

A shipwreck was discovered by fishermen in 1998.This discovery was extraordinary;the ship had been carrying China ceramics from the 9th Century. The ship had completed the outward journey but it sank on the return journey, approximately 1 mile a the coast of Belitung Island,Indonesia. It is still unclear why the ship was so far from its expected route back from China. The site location was purchased from the fishermen and a license to excavate the shipwreck was awarded to a local Indonesian company. The excavation spanned two expeditions, one which commenced in August 1998 and the second in 1999.Thus,the excavation had become the biggest single collection of Tang Dynasty artefacts found in one location.

The Buddha

Originated in Idea, Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of Gautama Shakyamuni, who lived between 563 and 483 BCE. However, it is still not very clear the exact time when Buddhism was first encountered in China, although there are literary allusions to suggest that China was aware of its existence as early as the third century BCE. The court of the Han dynasty under the reign of Emperor Ming (CE 58-75) recorded officially his dream of a giant gilded deity, who was identified as Buddha. It was in china where the religion developed and became widely accepted into the lift of the Chinese.
